Dear customers and friends of Folio Books,

In December of 1979, a tiny bookshop called Folio Books opened in Elizabeth Street, Brisbane city.  Since that time, we have grown, and evolved while always remaining an independent, family business. We couldn't have done this without the support of our customers and the passion and hard work of our staff for which we are incredibly grateful.

Over the years, Folio Books has faced many challenges including floods; two relocations; the GFC; the ascendance of international online book retailers; and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Today, we find ourselves in a situation where the continued impacts of COVID remain uncertain, coupled with the strain of relocation due to the demolition of our last premises at 133 Mary Street.

Family has always been core to everything we do at Folio Books.  Upon significant reflection and in line with this value, we have made the very difficult decision not to reopen for the foreseeable future.

For us, it has been an incredible journey to this point, and it has been a pleasure to have shared our passion of books with you all – we take away so many wonderful memories and experiences, and for that we thank you.

We hope that we created a unique experience for you when visiting our bookstore – a haven away from the busyness of life, where you could be inspired, excited or challenged by what lies between the front and back cover of a book.  Being with books daily, and talking about books with our customers, has been an extraordinary experience which we will greatly miss.

Stay well and keep reading.

Our best wishes to all.

Angelos, Jenny and Alexis
